Former Arizona U.S. Representative Joins Ervin Graves Strategy Group

Matt Salmon named Senior Vice President to the Government Relations practice

Washington, DC – Former U.S. Rep. Tom Graves, President and CEO of Ervin Graves Strategy Group (EGSG), announced today that Matt Salmon, former member of the U.S. House of Representatives for Arizona’s first and fifth districts, joined EGSG as a Senior Vice President to the Government Relations practice.

“We are thrilled to have Matt join our team as we solidify our Arizona footprint,” said Tom Graves. “Matt’s distinguished career in government, combined with his strong relationships and policy expertise, will enhance our client-first approach from D.C. to the Southwest.”

Matt began his political career in 1991 as an Arizona State Senator where he was assistant majority leader and Chairman of the Arizona Senate Rules Committee and Co-Chairman of the Arizona State Indian Gambling Committee. Following his time in Arizona state government, Matt served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1995 until 2001, and again in 2013 until 2017. While in Congress, Matt served on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs where he chaired both the Subcommittee on the Western Hemisphere and Subcommittee on Asia and the Pacific. Across his entire House career, Matt also served on other House committees including Education and the Workforce, Science, and Small Business.

Managing Director Joe Kasper added, “Matt is a valuable addition to our team, and we’re excited to work alongside him as we continue to grow our diverse client portfolio. His unique perspective as a public official with extensive international experience, and relevant prior committee roles, all underscore the competitive advantage and insights he’ll provide.”

Outside of his government service, Matt was Vice President for Government Affairs from 2016 to 2021 for his alma mater, Arizona State University (ASU). There, he led the University’s federal, state, and local relations and held a faculty appointment as a professor in ASU’s College of Public Service & Community Solutions.
Matt said, “I’m thrilled to be joining EGSG and I look forward to bringing my 30 years of political experience to an already great firm.”
